Salary: £60-85,000 plus full benefits
The position is within the Ports and Rail Engineering Unit of this Civil Infrastructure Business based in London. The unit provides services to all business lines within the company including Mining and Metals, Oil Gas and Chemicals as well as its parent business lines Civil Infrastructure and Rail. The Unit’s primary focus is to undertake feasibility studies for port and rail infrastructure to support projects around the globe. On completion of the feasibility and selection of the preferred option by its clients, the unit performs the front end engineering design (FEED) before transitioning the detail design to one of its global execution centres.
This senior position will report directly to the Area Ports Manager and will work within a team of port and marine related disciplines to support business development and the execution of studies and FEED for projects around the world.
Key Responsibilities
- The assessment, review and conceptual design of all marine structures such as seawalls, breakwaters, jetties, quays, etc according to applicable standards, in close cooperation with the (potential) end users, in terms of commercial, nautical, operational , environmental and technical requirements in a timely and efficient manner;
- Translate various design options into feasible solutions;
- Assist in the development of proposals to customers
- Plan, program and manage the resources applied such that agreed project objectives of quality, timeliness and profitability will be achieved
- Prepare, submit and present papers at industry conferences and publishing in relevant trade journals and magazines from time to time
- Support the development of expertise in its Ports capabilities
- Maintain and support ongoing business relationships with key clients and customers;
Skills and Experiences
- A degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or equivalent plus relevant professional qualification;
- Substantial experience in the maritime sector, with proven international expertise in the design and delivery of marine structures, including seawalls, breakwaters and other related structures;
- Previous experience in a consulting or contracting environment
- Understanding of port masterplanning and knowledge of operational conditions, berthing forces and other maritime related loads
- Knowledge of dredging and geotechnical aspects of maritime projects
- Self starter with strong communication skills both verbal and written
