Salary: £60-85,000 plus full benefits
The position is within the Ports and Rail Engineering Unit of this Civil Infrastructure Business based in London. The unit provides services to all business lines within the company including Mining and Metals, Oil Gas and Chemicals as well as its parent business lines Civil Infrastructure and Rail. The Unit’s primary focus is to undertake feasibility studies for port and rail infrastructure to support projects around the globe. On completion of the feasibility and selection of the preferred option by clients, the unit performs the front end engineering design (FEED) before transitioning the detail design to one of the global execution centres.
This senior position will report directly to the Area Ports Manager and will work within a team of port and marine related disciplines to support business development and the execution of studies and FEED for projects around the world.
Key Responsibilities
- Planning and design of dredging and reclamation projects related to port construction, land reclamation for industrial development, housing, environmental protection or rehabilitation, etc. according to state of the art, best practice methodologies, in close cooperation with the (potential) users in a timely and efficient manner
- Provide support to the assessment of all effects on the coastal morphological and hydraulic system resulting from planned works;
- Translate various options into feasible solutions, taking into account various types of equipment (hoppers, cutters, backhoe’s etc), soil properties, operational conditions, production estimating, costing, etc ;
- Assist in the development of proposals to customers
- Plan, program and manage the resources applied such that agreed project objectives of quality, schedule and profitability will be achieved
- Prepare, submit and present papers at industry conferences and publishing in relevant trade journals and magazines from time to time
- Support the development of Dredging expertise in the Ports businesses capabilities
- Maintain and support ongoing business relationships with key clients and customers;
Skills and Experiences
- Professional qualifications in Civil/Geotechnical/Mining Engineering and related engineering degree
- Substantial experience in the dredging sector, with proven international expertise in planning, design and execution of dredging and reclamation projects,
- Thorough understanding or knowledge of aquatic environment related issues, including mitigating measures;
- Understanding or knowledge of relevant geological and geotechnical aspects;
- Previous experience in an international consulting or contracting environment
- Commercial and technical acumen
- Self starter with strong communication skills both verbal and written
- The ability to lead a team of external and internal resources
